POSITION LAB MANAGER
RESPONSIBILITIES

 Oversee laboratory technicians, including scheduling, job assignments, time sheets, personnel evaluations, and resolving conflicts.

Maintain, update, and verify detailed and accurate records of laboratory protocols and on-going operations; implement standard laboratory procedures throughout the laboratory.

Institute a training program for new and existing lab technicians, including auditing procedures for compliance, and integrate manufacturing in-process testing equipment and methods where appropriate.

Establish and implement peer and management level review of lab reports and data entry accuracy.

Establish efficient sample retention program per customer and regulatory requirements.

Maintain lab data records and provide direction for out of specification materials. Assist operations and Quality Assurance with investigations into non-conforming product and materials.

Distribute reports to production department and administrative personnel and certificates to shipping/warehouse personnel.

Purchase supplies and maintain inventories for labs and areas related to quality assurance. Assist the Corporate Quality Assurance Manager with annual budget preparation

Research equipment, supplies, and technical information for present and future needs. Manage capital requests and capital projects as necessary for laboratory capabilities.

Coordinate necessary product testing with independent laboratories.

Maintain Oregon Department of Agriculture Appendix N records for laboratory and milk receiving, assist with state certification and generate necessary regulatory reports.

Conduct in-house and out-sourced crosschecks of lab samples for establishing proficiency 

Responsible for performing maintenance, establishing, and maintaining systems for lab equipment calibrations.

Maintain on-call availability for laboratory and milk-receiving emergencies during non-working hours; acts as vacation replacement as required 

Champion continuous improvement initiatives and training for the laboratory and staff.

Communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors and the general public.

Utilize a computer literate with intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and SharePoint. ERP systems knowledge is required; MS Navision (NAV) is a plus.

Act as a team player and be able to interact with staff at all levels of the company.

Work under pressure, meet deadlines, and be flexible in working on multiple projects simultaneously.

Demonstrate excellent time-management skills with the ability to work independently with little supervision.

Skills you’ll need:

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology or related field is required.

Experience: Previous experience with supervision/personnel management is required
