POSITION CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT ENGINEER
RESPONSIBILITIES


Summary:  
This position will serve the dual role of managing the Packing Department Maintenance team and leading our continuous improvement projects. The role of Packing Department Maintenance will be to plan, organize, and direct Packing Maintenance department activities to minimize equipment downtime and optimize   production efficiencies.  The project management role will encompass leading and facilitating continuous improvement projects thru successful completion in a team-based environment.     

Responsibilities: 
Packing Maintenance Essential functions:

•    Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule for Packing Department and other areas as required
•    Cross train with Maintenance Department
•    Direct daily maintenance of the Packing Mechanics
•    Assist with sourcing, installation, training, and operation of new equipment
•    Coordinate with Maintenance Dept. managers to provide 7 day Facility Maintenance coverage
•    Order and write Purchase Orders for parts and supplies needed for Maintenance Department
•    Coordinate with Packing Department to schedule necessary maintenance to keep production lines running in a safe, efficient, and reliable manner
•    Maintain appropriate inventory of spare parts for Packing Equipment 
•    Transition Maintenance Department from the current reactive state to a reliable/predictable state by developing and implementing maintenance systems to improve equipment reliability.
•    Manage a skills-based certification process to continually increase the knowledge and skills of the maintenance staff. 
•    Manage the use of EXCEL system for continually tracking work order progress, equipment repair history, preventative maintenance routes, and spare parts inventory.
•    Implement Basic Care routes for production personnel on all operating equipment.
•    Develop strategy to identify required equipment upgrades, and effectively manage the installation projects.
•    Manage the bidding and contracting of projects by outside contractors. Develop strategy on when to use outside resources versus utilization of on-site resources.
•    Prepare capital spending requests and budgeting for capital expenditures. 
•    Develop and implement standards and procedures for the technical work performed.
•    Promote and maintain a high awareness for Employee Safety and Food Safety in the Packing Department and throughout the Facility
•    Assist the CPI Director in developing and maintaining the QMS 
•    Control Standard Operating Procedures and Standard Operating Instructions associated with CPI
•    Collaborate with other CPI Managers within MMI to ensure consistency of purpose and Best Practices sharing are maintained across all facilities

Skill Set (Preferred):
•    A technical degree in mechanical, electrical, and/or process engineering is preferred.  Factory/plant maintenance experience is a PLUS
•    Relevant technical knowledge is of particular importance as are strong communication, problem solving, and analytical skills.  
•    Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience and responsibility in maintenance field.   Two of which were holding a supervisory position directing a multifunctional maintenance staff/team.
