POSITION QUALITY MANAGER
RESPONSIBILITIES

Position Summary

 

 

The Quality Programs and Systems Manager position is responsible for designing, creatingand implementing the necessary quality policies and systems architecture to comply with all customer and regulatory requirements. This position works in conjunction with the Plant Quality Assurance Manager to enusure all programs are; up-to-date and effective, people are properly trained, progam verification is captured and the overall the activities of the Quality Assurance Department are focused on delivering high quality and safe food to our customers. This role is the primary developer of quality policicies, programs and systems (including FSMA compliance, GFSI compliance, customer requirements including audits, etc.) and works closely with the Plant Quality Manager and other functions to  implement and modify as needed. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

1. Responsible for the mid to long term quality and food safety operational management of the Plant and Concord Foods as a whole.

• Designs, creates, implementation and executes the company’s quality system programs and systems.

• Drive Continuous Improvements in all quality/food safety; systems, programs  and policies assuring they are up to date and effective.

• Work closely with all functions to ensure compliance to all quality policies, systems and procedures.

• Participate in all QA meetings and new product activities with operations as required.

• Generate Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s) for products manufactured in the plant.

• Co-Leader for all Food Safety related issues including acting as the facility’s Allergen Coordinator (answer allergen questions and support internal allergen audits).

• Help to drive overall efforts to a more Quality Assurance model vs. strictly a control model. Assist in problem solving.

• Support, train, review, coach and manage staff. Help staff be more “quality coaches” vs. “quality cops”. Stressing the need for Teamwork across the enterprise.

• Support the Plant QA Manager and operations for food safety and quality of the product produced or packaged.

• Support root cause investigation and corrective actions for food safety or quality problems/issues.

• Primarily responsible for leading customer and 3rd party food safety audits, in conjunction with the Plant QA Manager.

• Supports R&D Department in developing new products.

• Assists management in developing short and long-term goals and plans for the Quality Assurance Department.  Provides suggestions and recommendations.

• Develop, manage, improving and seeking new testing methods. Includes Lab compliance, lab standards and testing protocol. Assist in training and verifying staff in proper testing protocols.

 

2. Assumes other related duties as required or assigned.

• Acts as back-up to the Plant QA Manager, Sanitation Manager and QA Director as needed

• Monitors and evaluates work quality, efficiency, and productivity.  Ensures that completed work is of the high quality.  Provides suggestions for improved service delivery.  Seeks new methods to accomplish departmental tasks.  

• Ensures confidentiality of information.

• Ensures that Quality Assurance functions are completed in accordance with established policies, procedures, and related legal requirements.  

• Initiate root cause and corrective action by reporting any food safety or quality problems/issue to supervisor or designee.

• Drive cross functional Teamwork and help to build and reinforce a strong quality culture.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

• Department functions are effectively and efficiently completed in accordance with FSMA, GFSI, established policies, procedures, standards, and related programs and legal requirements.

• Productivity and quality goals and deadlines are met.  Suggestions for improved service delivery are developed and implemented.

• Department policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and modified as needed. Appropriate Departmental and employee goals are formulated.

• Records, reports, and documents are complete and accurate.

• Department personnel are well trained, effective, efficiently utilized, and well supervised.  Assistance is provided as needed.

• Effective working relations, communication, and coordination exist with production personnel and with management.  Assistance is provided as needed.  Management is appropriately informed.

• Professional business relations exist with customers and with external trade contacts. Questions and problems are promptly and courteously resolved.  Assistance is provided as needed.

• Advises on and adheres to budget.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: College degree in science discipline, Food Science or Chemistry preferred.  Plusses: PCQI Certification, HACCP Certification, Process Control for Acidified Foods and SQF Practitioner preferred. 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Requires significant experience in; food safety, quality systems and auditing. Knowledgeable of GMP’s, sanitation, SOP’s, Allergen Control, FSMA, GFSI standards and HACCP.  Good understanding of the science behind process control, chemistry and machinery/processing equipment functioning.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 5+ years of related supervisory experience required. Food background with experience in food quality assurance (additional product development experience is a plus).

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Strong decision making and organizational skills

Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel and other computer applications)

Solid statistical and math skills as well as problem solving abilities.

Ability to work independently
