Engineering & Maintenance Manager

Job Description:

This person’s responsibility will include overseeing 2 plants and 9 direct reports 

The position will be responsible for day to day activities of directing, controlling and coordinating all phases of the Maintenance and Engineering Department.

Support plant facilities and equipment maintenance to produce quality products in an efficient and profitable manner.

Will handle troubleshooting, all maintenance and repairs of equipment, Preventative/Predictive Maintenance Plans; manage supply room, etc....

Lead, develop and train staff members.

Provide a team environment.

Work closely with other disciplines in providing world class manufacturing.

Assures equipment reliability to maximize production line productivity

- Implements process enhancements to improve process enhancements to improve package and flavor changeover efficiency

- Utilizes visual factory concepts to maximize asset utilization and plant performance

- Builds the capability of maintenance supervisors and technicians

-Tracks standard manufacturing and warehouse measures and prioritizes plant maintenance opportunities

– Maintains P&L responsibility over maintenance cost centers, repair and maintenance, maintenance labor, utilities and capital improvement plans.


Directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering and maintenance projects by performing the following duties personally or through assigned direct or indirect team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

• Plans and implements engineering projects, including defining the project scope, activities, milestones, and staff requirements, per customer requirements.

• Define specific technical goals that relate to the justification of the project.

• Define method and plan for project execution consistent with the business need and justification.

• Develops and maintains a schedule and budget for the assigned engineering/maintenance project.

• Identify key risk areas and potential resolution plan and related impact.

• Provides reports on the status of project milestones and adjusts schedules accordingly.

• Controls expenditures within limitations of project budget and scope

• Identifies project staffing requirements and coordinates staffing with supporting organization managers.

• Coordinates preparation and delivery of project deliverables, design documents, and bid packages.

• Assigns and oversees project personnel to specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications and technical plans, and product testing.

• Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements, and related specifications.

• Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.

• Directs integration of technical activities and products.

• Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.

• Prepares interim and completion project reports.

• Interfaces with customers to provide project status reports and ensure customer needs are met.

• Provides status and progress reports to customer, project team, and management.

• Ensure equipment and production lines meet Company, GMP, sanitary design and ergonomic standards.

• Coordinate plant training needs to ensure a smooth transition and project closing

Supervisory Responsibilities

Oversee entire project resource base including internal and external engineering and construction firms.

Education and/or Experience Four-year college or university program degree in relevant Engineering discipline (mechanical, electrical, or food processing).

Significant broad-based project management experience (at least one project over $5m).

Understands where/how to spend engineering dollars and how to manage internal/external engineering resources.

Background in food processing to include sanitary factory/process design.

Strong process improvement background with at least 5 years direct process improvement experience in the food industry.

Experience with a food equipment manufacturing company is preferred (~5 years).

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
