POSITION SAFETY MANAGER
RESPONSIBILITIES

LOCAL ONLY 
 

Summary
Responsible for overseeing and enforcing all safety measures in a laboratory, warehouse, factory, maintenance or office. The job description of a safety manager involves detailed knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and the ability to detect and eradicate any health and safety hazards accordingly.
A safety manager inspects work areas, products, and employee work habits to ensure that everything is in compliance with OSHA rules and environmental safety guidelines, and makes changes to improve the safety of the workplace when necessary.
 

Job Duties
•Designs and implements safety programs for designated company or workspace.
•Stays up to date on state and federal workplace safety regulations. 
•Leads informational training meetings for employees regarding proper health and safety habits and procedures at work.
•Identifies health and safety hazards (updates/maintains JSA’s).
*Review company’s current safety manual/procedures and make any necessary recommendations to implement or revise any areas. 
•Recommends ways to improve health and safety in the workplace.
•Writes up reports detailing health and safety issues.
•Maintains OSHA logs and presents reports and suggestions for improvement 
•Fields inquiries from employees about proper safety procedures.
•Responds to on-site emergencies and accidents.
•Investigates on-the-job accidents and writes up reports.
•Identifies hazards or faults that caused the accident and devises strategic plan to remedy those problems.
•Monitors work place on a daily basis to ensure all activity meets safety compliance.
•Conducts official audits of the workplace 
•Recruits and trains new safety officials (supervisors, safety committee members, etc.) to assist in audits and other oversight
 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•Food Industry Experience, at least 5 years
•Communicates details of safety procedures clearly to employees. BILINGUAL is a PLUS
•Pays close attention to detail.
•Demonstrates detailed knowledge of OSHA and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) guidelines.
•Demonstrates strong leadership skills.
•Exhibits ability to think practically and creatively to implement the best safety practices.
•Responds quickly and efficiently to emergency situations.
•Remains calm in a crisis.
•Demonstrates knowledge of the specific tools, machinery, or equipment used in the specific place of work.
•Exercises caution and alertness at all times.
•Possesses strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
 

Education and Experience
•Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health and Safety Engineering or in an engineering discipline is required.
•At least 5 years work experience in a related occupation is a must
•Coursework and training in occupational safety requirements and OSHA guidelines is required and/or professional designations such as CSP, ALCM, CSM, CSD and LSP
