The Sanitation Manager ensures the Sanitation Department is following Company rules and guidelines.  Additionally, he/she must successfully lead the department through both tactical and strategic initiatives in accordance with established company procedures, quality standards and government or regulatory guidelines.  He / She must be detail oriented, have excellent personal skills, and possess effective written and verbal communication skills. In their absence, department supervisors can cover their duties and responsibilities.
Assumes overall responsibility of Sanitation Department operations.  Empowers Sanitation personnel to take job-appropriate ownership of activities related to:  Employee safety, quality, food safety, equipment and environmental cleaning program, GMPs, department costs (labor, materials, utilities, and other resources), employee relations, training, and task scheduling/planning.
Recognizes areas of opportunity that could improve employee safety, quality, food safety, cost, and efficiency.  Drives resolution to implement improvement.  Confers with Management, Maintenance, Frozen Foods, Kitchen, Warehouse, Technical Services, and Quality Assurance to resolve problems and recommend countermeasures to improve operations and conditions of equipment or facilities.
Empowers team members to own Safety in their work area.  Understands the safe cleaning procedures of each piece of equipment and empowers team members to work in compliance with these standards.
Views safety incidents/accidents as an opportunity to implement preventative countermeasures and employs a bias for action to develop and implement them as soon as possible.
Empowers Sanitation Department to adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices.
Follows guidelines in Manager’s Handbook regarding progressive disciplinary process.  Trains and empowers team to coach and discipline team members according to Manager’s Handbook policies.
Empowers Sanitation personnel to regularly audit documentation, including control points at Traywasher, cleaning inspections, etc., and coaches the team when deviations occur.
Regularly reviews results of environmental swab program.  Has a bias for action when deviations occur.
Develops standards as necessary to improve employee safety, quality, food safety / GMPs, cost, and process control.  Empowers team to regularly ensure department activities are in compliance with standards.  Takes ownership of department deficiencies and implements countermeasures with the appropriate sense of urgency.  Communicates deficiencies and countermeasures, as necessary, to Plant Manager.
Assumes overall accountability for the Sanitation budget.  Regularly communicates department performance against budget with the Sanitation Department.  Empowers team members to implement countermeasures on the plant floor that negatively impact budget.
Regularly communicates plant performance against consumer complaints to the Sanitation Department.  Empowers team members to implement countermeasures on the plant floor that encourage a reduction in consumer complaints.
Manages how Sanitation labor and other resources are allocated to support Kitchen, Frozen Foods, Canning / Jarring, Maintenance, and Warehouse operations.  Supports a forward-looking planning approach while also optimizing resources and maintaining safety and quality.
Empowers Sanitation leadership to proactively manage the Master Sanitation Schedule, including following up with Maintenance, Engineering, Kitchen, Frozen Foods, or Warehouse when tasks need to be rescheduled.
Is approachable and available to listen to employee suggestions and complaints.  Constructively and expeditiously confronts and resolves employee conflicts.  Maintains a positive work environment.
Develops controls and procedures to ensure smooth flow of information and communication.  Organizes cross-functional meetings between departments as needed.
Completes maintenance work orders when necessary, and empowers team members to create work orders as needed.  Prioritizes repairs when needed.  Empowers team to follow up with Maintenance when support is needed.  Maintains regular communication with the Engineering and Maintenance Departments to resolve ongoing equipment problems.
Personally understands cleaning procedures for environmental and equipment, including design and operation of CIP circuits.  Responsible for the overall effectiveness of training and development of Sanitation personnel, including, but not limited to: Equipment cleaning procedures, food safety, sanitation and hygiene, employee safety, and communication skills.  Regularly coaches and develops Sanitation leadership; empowers leadership to coach and develop non-exempt employees.
Manages the waste recycle and donation programs (e.g., for food waste, plastic, metal, etc.) in accordance with company beliefs.  Seeks opportunities to maximize reimbursement revenue to company.
Actively participates in New Equipment Start-up Process to ensure new equipment is designed to maximize cleanability and to ensure team members are properly trained on safe cleaning requirements.
Takes overall ownership of managing department-appropriate accounts (chemical, janitorial/sanitation supplies, etc.).  Regularly seeks ways to reduce costs associated with these accounts, and empowers plant personnel to identify cost reductions as well.
Performs employee evaluations for Supervisors in the Sanitation Department.  Coaches Sanitation leadership to perform department’s non-exempt evaluations.
Seeks continuous learning opportunities.  Attends educational classes and seminars for technical and leadership development.
Performs other duties assigned by the Plant Manager.
Directly manages Sanitation Supervisors.  Supports Team Leaders and other hourly employees in Sanitation.
Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Four years related experience and/or training.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations in English and Spanish.
Able to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos in English and Spanish. 
Ability to write effective e-mails, memos, reports, and other department, plant, and company correspondences in English and Spanish.
Able to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to other employees of the organization in English and Spanish.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public in English and Spanish.

COMPENSATION $100,000 - $120,000
